Instructors can enter grades in Canvas directly in the gradebook or using the SpeedGrader within an assignment.
Entering directly in the Gradebook
Go to the course you wish to post grades in and find the "Grades" section in the left hand side navigation:
You will know that there is a submission that needs to be graded when you see this symbol:
You can also click on this symbol and award a grade without an submission:
You can manually click on the symbol and give students a grade by clicking in the box, awarding points, and clicking enter:
**Please note, the default setting alerts students that you have posted a grade right away. It will appear in the students "Recent Feedback" section on their dashboard. View Instructors: Gradebook Settings Overview in Canvas**
Using the Speedgrader
Go to the course you wish to review and grade an assignment in. Click on the assignment by accessing it wherever it is posted (In a module, on the assignment page, etc.) and click on the assignment:
The details of the assignment will appear and show you the number of submissions you have to grade. Click on the "Speedgrader" item in the upper right hand corner of the screen:
The "Speedgrader" window will open and display the assignment submissions (It will also include a place for students that have not submitted, if any)
Commenting Tools (1): Comment on student work by adding annotations, highlighting, adding text, striking through, etc.
Progress (2): See how far along you are in grading and see the average score of the class on the assignment.
Grading Section (3): This section shows information on when a student submitted the assignment, the files they submitted, and a location for a grade and any comments/feedback. You can leave a voice comment or video content and attach a file as a comment as well.
Submit (4): Save your grade and comments by hitting submit. You can edit at any time.
Next Submission (5): Click the arrow to move on to the next student submission. You can also click on the student name drop down and select a specific student.
