As you wrap up the academic year at St. Norbert, we want to make you aware of a few of technology-related items that may need your attention. Much of this will be applicable primarily to graduating seniors, though all students may find this helpful.
Google Account
Email Account
As an alum of the college, your SNC Google account will remain active for 6 months following your graduation date. This includes email, calendar, drive, etc.
Take Your Data With You
Google has an article that explains how to download your data. If you do not migrate your data before 6 months following your graduation date, it will be deleted.
Google Drive - Change Ownership
If you worked in a campus department this year and you created documents as part of your job, you'll want to make sure someone in that department owns the documents you created. This allows the department to continue to manage and maintain those files after you're gone. Google has an article that explains how to make someone else the owner of your file.
Other Software
Knight Domains
If you have a website on knight.domains, you will lose access to your site 30 days after graduation. If you want to keep your site, consider making a tech bar appointment and one of our consultants can show you the easiest way to move your content to another web host. All migration information can be found here.
Moodle / Canvas
If you wish to keep a copy of anything in your Moodle / Canvas course, you will need to download these prior to graduating. While you may have the files for anything you submitted for an assignment, if you would like other resources, such as the class syllabus, you'll want to download these files. If you have any questions on how to do this, submit a Service Desk ticket.
Microsoft Office
Our Microsoft license only allows current employees and students to use Office 365. If you installed it on your computer as a student, you will need to either uninstall it, or purchase your own license. The timing isn't exact, but this change usually happens some time within 30 days after your account transitions from a student to an alum. All subsequent uses of Office documents will display a message telling you that you have only read access to your files.
If you don't want to purchase your own license, you have several options, all of which are free and will read Microsoft Office files:
If we can help you with anything else related to your computer or your account, please be sure to let us know.
